The Unified Numbering System is a coding system consisting of a letter, followed by five digits to categorize metal and alloy for commercial usage. This system was developed in 1974 by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and intended to be a set standard across North America. Unfortunately the Unified Numbering System does not dictate the composition or performance specification of a material.
