DIY: Toyota Keyless Remote Battery Replacement & Disassembly

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• lithium battery model number CR2032
• coin or standard/flat screwdriver

Procedure:

• work in an area where you don't risk losing any small parts
• find a slot on the end of the case and use a coin or standard screwdriver to pry the case apart
• once apart, the battery will be exposed on the frontside of the case slid into a holder on the circuit board
• the circuit board will need to be pushed out by assisting from the button side, gently pushing down on the buttons
• then the battery simply slides into place
• a replacement battery is a lithium battery model number CR2032
• the positive side faces away from the circuit board
• pull the rubber push pad out and then remove the buttons
• to remove the panic button, remove the rubber push pad and then the individual plastic button
• reassembly in reverse of disassembly

Programming Procedure

1. Unlock and open the driver's door, then ensure all the other doors are closed.
2. Insert the key into the ignition and do not turn it. Twice within five seconds, close the driver's door and then open the driver's door.
3. Close the driver's door and open it again. Insert the key into the ignition and pull it out. Close the driver's door, and then open the driver's door.
4. Close the driver's door again and then open it. Insert the key in the ignition and close the driver's door.
5. Turn the key to the on position, but do not start the engine. Then turn it off and remove the key from the ignition.
6. The door locks should cycle which will confirm the programming procedure has been activated. If the door locks do not cycle, repeat the steps above.
7. Press and hold both the unlock and lock button on the new keyless remote for two seconds. Then press and hold the lock button for three seconds. The door should lock and then unlock, if done correctly
8. Repeat step seven to add any additional remotes. Up to four remotes can be added to a vehicle.
