DIY: How to Check Tire Pressure

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• tire pressure gauge

Procedure:

• first consult with your owner's manual, tag on the inside of the door jamb, or specifications listed on the sidewall of the tire to determine what the correct pressure is
• locate the valve steam and remove the cap
• ensure the tire pressure gauge is zeroed
• now test the tire pressure and take a reading
• a general specification for tire pressure should be 32psi
• if the reading is too high, let air from the tire
• if the tire reads too low, add air
• for tires equipped with nitrogen, use a nitrogen specific filler
• reinstall valve steam cap when done

Although you should consult with your vehicle owner's manual, the tag on the inside of the driver's door, or with the tire specifications normally found on the side on the tire.
