DIY: How to Remove Rust Stains

Difficulty Level

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• wheel acid
• soft carwash brush
• metal polish
• polishing compound
• clean lint free cloth
• clay bar
• bucket of soapy water

Procedure:

• be sure the vehicle is washed so ensure no existing dirt or debris can damage any of the surfaces
• wheel acid cleaner can be used on chrome metal bumpers or wheels, but normally isn't recommended for paint as it can damage it's finish over time
• normally you can spray it on the surface, allow it to soak in, and rinse off, but sometimes agitation with a soft carwash brush is needed
• for polishing compounds, apply some of it to a lint free cloth and slowly work it into the surface
• it does take a little time and this can be all done by hand and a little water if the compound has dried out
• once satisfied, wipe away
• when using a clay bar, ensure the area is wet and wet down the clay car with soap water
• kneed the clay bar if need and find a clean area to work with
• applying light to medium pressure, rub on the surface, then rewet the surface and clay and clay bar when needed
• with any of these methods I would recommend applying some type of protective coating such as wax
