Example: Power Steering Pump Whine

Causes:

• low fluid
• dirty fluid
• old fluid
• failing pump
• plugged filter
• excessive build up of pressure in the fluid reservoir
• air in the system

Video example on the sound of a failing or whining power steering pump. This issue happens across the whole rpm range and sometimes can worsen if the fluid is warm or cold. This can be cause from a variety of faults and doesn't necessarily mean the pump itself is failing. Be sure to do a proper diagnostic on the system to determine the actual fault rather than wasting money on items which are not the culprit of the issue. Sounds and situations may vary slightly spending on vehicle's make a model. This particular example was done on a 2003 Dodge Dakota equipped with a 4.7L V8.
