DIY: BMW E39 Grab Handle Removal

Tools/Supplies Needed:
• phillips screwdriver• small standard/flat screwdriver
Procedure:
• first start by pulling down the handle• using the small standard screwdriver, open the two hatches located at the bump stops for the handle
• flip the hatches all the way open, they will keep the handle in the open position against it's spring tension
• using a phillips screwdriver, remove the two mounting screws under the hatches
• both are the exact same style and size, so there is no issues with mixing them up
• then remove the handle from the ceiling
• installation in reverse of removal

This applies to both the sedan and touring version found between the years 1996 to 2003. If you are removing the headliner, these handles are required to be removed as well. This procedure is similar on other BMW models as well. This particular tutorial was done on a 1997 BMW 540i.
