DIY: Volkswagen MKIV HVAC Light Bulb Replacement

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• replacement bulb is #2721
• pliers
• electrical tape or a cloth
• needle nose pliers

Procedure:

• ensure the vehicle is off and the lights are not on
• taking your pliers, wrap the tip in electrical tape
• if you do not have electrical tape, then wrap the plastic fan speed knot in a cloth
• carefully remove the climate control panel's fan switch knob by pulling straight out using the pliers
• sometimes you maybe able to use your hands, but a majority of the time it fits very tight into place
• once removed, you then have direct access to the bulb
• using needle noise pliers with electrical tape on the jaws or a small hose, carefully remove the bulb in the center located where the knob was
• remember the bulb is fragile so don't break it
• the replacement bulb is #2721
• once removed, you can now install the new bulb
• when reinstalling the new knob, ensure the contacts are in the correct position and touching
• test the light to ensure it's working correctly
• now reinstall the knob
