DIY: BMW E39 Roof Trim Removal

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• standard/flat screwdriver
• electrical tape

Procedure:

• first start by taping off the end of the standard screwdriver with electrical tape as added protection so you won't scratch the roof or trim
• starting with the rear of the vehicle, using the standard/flat screw driver, slip it between the rear window rubber trim and the roof trim and pry up
• once the first clip has popped up, you can them work the rest by hand
• once all the clips are popped out, pulled the whole roof trim back slightly so the plastic tab in the roof trim is removed from the underside of the front windshield rubber trim
• there is a total of eight clips

Video tutorial on how to the roof trim on a BMW E39. The roof trim does have individual clips that go along the whole roof, the front and rear window rubber trim DOES NOT need to be removed. The roof trim is made of aluminum and does have rubber gaskets on each side. The particular tutorial was done on a 1997 BMW 540i E39 body style.
