Difficulty Level
Tools/Supplies Needed:
• tools will vary on keyless remote/key fob disassembly
• soap and water
• bucket of water
• maroon scotch brite
• 400grit wet/dry sand paper
• isopropyl/rubbing alcohol
• lint free cloth
• adhesion promoter
• base coat color
• clear coat
Procedure:
• start by disassembling your keyless remote/key fob
• using soap and water, give the thorough wash to ensure there is no dirt or debris which could cause adhesion problems
• having a bucket of water, pre-soak the scotch brite and 400 grit sandpaper
• sand the surface of the case where you want to paint it
• some scratches or imperfections in the surface can be sanded out depending on the severity
• once done, give the surface a good wipe using rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth
• tape off any areas you do not want paint on
• fold the tape so it's sticky on both sides and the case can be stuck to your painting surface to ensure it doesn't blow away
• wipe down the case again using isopropyl/rubbing alcohol
• apply adhesion promoter evenly on the case surface
• apply base coat evenly, I did two coats in the video because I am also using a darker color
• for lighter colors, you will most likely need to apply three coats to ensure the surface is covered sufficiently
• allow the base coat to setup, then move onto clear coat
• apply two coats of clear coat
• allow to the paint to dry for a couple hours and it should be safe to at least hand
• remove tape, then put in a safe location
• allow at least 24 hours for the paint to dry to assemble the keyless remote/key fob
• a zip/cable tie can be used in the ring hole for temporary to have access to your vehicle
• be sure to and the key up, so it doesn't rest on a surface which could affect the final finish until it's fully cured
• it may take three to four days for the paint to cure, this will be dependent on what type of paint is used, weather conditions, and the thickness of paint applied
• if you wish, you can also wet sand and polish the surface to achieve maximum shine
• this can be done using 2000 grit sandpaper, polishing compound, scratch remover, then wax
